About

Accessibility

The Parliamentary Education Office is committed to making its website fully accessible to the public, including people with disabilities or technical constraints (such as older browsers and low speed Internet connections).

This website incorporates all relevant priority 1 and most priority 2 and priority 3 requirements from the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Wherever we use functionality on this website that may exclude some users, we always provide alternative versions.

As the website is mainly text-based we have not provided a text-only version of the site. Instead we use alternative text (known as ALT text) to describe the function and/or visual content of graphics. We also ensure that descriptive text (often known as long descriptions) accompanies all complex diagrams.

The Parliamentary Education Office website is regularly tested for accessibility and all new website development includes accessibility compliance as a key performance measure.

Kidsview

Kidsview is a sub-website of the Parliamentary Education Office website and contains interactive learning objects, audio and animation. The learning objects on Kidsview could take varying times to load depending on the speed of your computer and your internet connection.

Kidsview was created in Macromedia Flash because of its capacity for designing and building rich multi-media in the form of interactive games and visually stimulating animations. However, we want everyone to be able to access Kidsview, so we have also created a non Flash version for users who do not have access to Flash Player. Flash Player can be downloaded free from the Adobe website.

Please contact us if you have any issues accessing Kidsview.

PDF files

The PEO website contains PDF files. PDF is a graphically oriented file format designed for electronic interchange; it was developed by Adobe Systems Inc. for use with its Acrobat software.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view or print PDF documents and can be downloaded free from the Adobe website.

Adobe also provides tools for the blind and visually impaired to access PDF documents. These tools are available from the Adobe Accessibility Resource Center.
