about this website
The Parliamentary Education Office (PEO) website contains seven major sections of content. Each is accessible from any page in the website. They are outlined below.
ABOUT: You are currently in the About section. This section explains what we do, who we are and how to use this website.
PROGRAMS: This section details the Role-play at Australia’s Parliament House Program and Customised Programs available for mainstream student groups, tertiary students, indigenous groups, mature age groups and others.
STUDENTS: This section is designed for students and contains material that is suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities. Students will find factual information about the Parliament in Parliament NOW and resources to assist them with homework and assignments, including the Fact Sheet Series and the Closer Look series. There is also an extensive Image Library and Parliamentary Glossary. This section also contains Kidsview, an interactive subsite of the PEO website which explains parliamentary concepts through interactives and animations.
TEACHERS: This section is designed for primary and secondary teachers. It contains step-by-step instructions for running your own parliamentary role-play in DIY Role-play in the Classroom, and a range of supporting resources such as scripts, seating plans, diagrams and templates in Role-play Toolkit. This section also contains Hands-on Lesson Plans—a set of 12 secondary lesson plans. Other teachers such as second language teachers, TAFE teachers, university lecturers and community educators will also find these materials suitable for a variety of applications.
FRIENDS & COLLEAGUES: This section is designed for the people we work with. It contains News from the PEO, and Year in Review, which includes annual reports on our major programs.
FAQ: This is your one-stop shop for information about how Australian governance really works. It includes four major sections: Our Federation, Our Parliament, Our Government, and Our Judiciary. Whether you need a quick answer to a specific question, or broad information on a parliamentary topic, the FAQ will help you.
PUBLICATIONS: This section lists all our publications—what they are and how to obtain them. It contains a Current Publications page and a Past Publications page as well as information about Free Publications and popular PEO publications such as Cockatoo Island, Parliament in Pictures, Peeling back Parliament and the Pocket Constitution. See Future Publications to find out what is coming soon from the PEO.
You will also find a search function, a disclaimer and privacy statement, a copyright and accessibility statement as well as our contact details on every page.
In addition a separate Contact page tells you who to contact for general information and who to contact for website feedback. Finally, the Site Index page is provided to make sure you don’t miss anything on the PEO website.
