teaching teachers 2005

The Parliamentary Education Office (PEO) has a home inside Parliament House, Canberra. From this base we reach out to teachers throughout Australia. In 2005 the PEO presented the following professional development programs:

  • A PEO Fellowships program for secondary teachers from Far North Queensland.
  • A Pre-service Teachers Program (PTP) for teachers-in-training from Edith Cowan University.

In addition, during 2005 the PEO set up an entirely new program for primary school teachers called Pathways to Parliament.

Planning for the new program began in earnest at the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA) conference held in Canberra in June 2005. The PEO attended and invited school principals to volunteer to host a professional development day for teachers in their region. A total of 56 principals volunteered and the PEO now has a busy Pathway to Parliament schedule for 2006!
