Description of Parliamentary Quiz

Sportygirl introduces the game by congratulating players on being selected as contestants on the Parliamentary quiz.

In the centre of the next screen is a large circle surrounded by six small circle paddles. Each paddle represents a different quiz. On rollover each paddle reveals a different image in the centre circle and the quiz titles appear. Players click on a paddle to choose a quiz. Quiz titles include:

• Our Nation is born
• Government and opposition
• Law-making
• Parliamentary places
• Parliament today
• Australian firsts

Each quiz follows the same format as the preceding screen—a large circle, surrounded by paddles. Clicking on each paddle, players work their way through six questions which relate to the quiz topic. Each question has three multiple choice answers. Players roll over buttons labelled A, B or C to read each answer. To select an answer, players click on a button. If the answer is incorrect, a red cross and an explanation appear. If the answer is correct, a green tick appears and further information is given and players select another question.

For example, in the 'Our nation is born quiz', question 3 asks:

Q: In 1900 what did the British Parliament do which allowed Australia to become a nation?

A: It passed a law allowing Australia to have its own constitution.
B: It passed a law allowing Australia to leave the Commonwealth.
C: It passed a law which appointed Australia's first prime minister.

If you answer C, a red cross appears: 'The British Parliament has never had the power to appoint the Australian prime minister.'

If you answer B, a red cross appears: 'Australia did not leave the Commonwealth; it is still a member today.'

If you answer A, a green tick appears: 'With its own constitution, Australia could become a nation and form its own parliament.'

A star appears on each question paddle that is answered correctly. When all questions are answered correctly, Sportygirl appears in a new screen telling players they have completed their first quiz. Players click 'continue' to choose a new quiz. On returning to the quiz menu, a star appears on each completed quiz.

When players complete all six quizzes Sportygirl appears in a new window congratulating them on their performance. Players can take the quiz again or go to the homepage.
