Coming in 2008: Parliament of Wizards
Parliament of Wizards is a set of innovative teaching materials on CD-ROM that is currently being trialled in classrooms throughout Australia. The Parliamentary Education Office (PEO) hopes to make Parliament of Wizards available at a low cost in 2008. The Parliament of Wizards program combines fantasy with the principles of parliamentary democracy. Students take on the role of wizards and create an imaginary parliament and are presented with the very real challenge of representation and decision making on behalf of the citizens of the wizard world they have created. The CD-ROM will contain eight sessions for implementation over a school term or year, plus many additional resources and loads of inspiration!
Coming in 2008: Quirky & Quizzical
Quirky & Quizzical (Q&Q) is a set of interactive quiz questions revealing unusual, fun and surprising facts about the Australian Parliament. Quirky & Quizzical is designed to extend the PEO Fact Sheet series by challenging students to hunt for quirky information about parliament. The questions aim to create a greater understanding of the intricacy and intrigue involved in the Australian Parliament—historically and today. Kick-start your enthusiasm for parliament with Quirky & Quizzical! This exciting new feature will be launched in June 2008, with more questions and increased interactivity later in the year.
Coming in 2008: Video production
2008 will see the PEO introduce its own visual media production facility. Watch out for our first DVD in 2008.
Coming: more to the new look PEO Website
Throughout 2008, the PEO will continue to develop our website. Some of the new publications planned include:
- more classroom activities including questions and assignments to help teachers plan a unit on parliament or prepare a visit to Parliament House
- more interactivity, including a new and fun interactive for Kidsview.
