Description

This diagram illustrates how government can change.

Pre-election: the government has the majority in the House of Representatives.

Federal election: the government wins in less than 50 percent of seats (electorates), and the opposition wins in more than 50 percent of seats (electorates).

Post election: the opposition becomes government and the government becomes the opposition.
