Description

This diagram shows why there are 76 senators in the current Senate. There are six Australian states and 12 senators to represent each. There are two Australian territotries and two senators to represent each. Therefore,

12 senators multiplied by six states equals 72 senators.

Two senators multiplied by two territories equals four senators.

72 plus four equals 76 senators in the Senate.
