These lesson plans use role-play to teach the key functions and concepts relating to Australia's federal Parliament. They have been designed for both primary and secondary school students. All role-plays explore the four functions of the federal Parliament:
- Law-making – how laws are made.
- Formation of government – how the government is formed.
- Representation – the responsibilities of elected representatives.
- Scrutiny – keeping a check on the government of the day.
Why use role play in your classroom?
Role-play is active learning at its best, driven by student interaction, immersion and engagement. It is suitable for students of all ages and abilities. Role-play engages students in a deep approach to learning that pushes the boundaries of each learner's understanding of the real world.
