Question TIME in the senate script set

President Script

Instructions Script
When the Usher of the Black Rod has put the Black Rod in its place, say:

Senators, please sit down.

The Senate is now in session.

The rules of the Senate must be obeyed.

Clerk, please read out the rules.

After the Clerk has read the rules, say:

 

 

 

Choose one of the people standing and say:

Questions without notice will now be taken.

I will take one question from each side of the Senate in turn, starting with the opposition.

Senators with a question, please stand.

 

I call Senator ________________ (use first or last name) to ask a question.
After the senator has asked the question, say: I call on the Minister for ______________ to answer the question.
Continue to call senators until the time for questions has run out. Then say: I call the Leader of the Government in the Senate.
After the Leader of the Government in the Senate has spoken, say:

This session of Question Time is ended.

Clerk Script

Instructions Script
To begin the session stand, ring the bell and say:

Honourable senators, please stand.

When the President asks you to read out the rules, stand and say:

 

 

 

Then sit down.

Always stand up to speak.

Always address your remarks through the President.

Begin with the words ‘Mr/Madam President’.

Senators should not interrupt each other.

The President keeps order.

Usher of the Black Rod Script

Instructions Script

When the Clerk rings the bell, lead the President into the chamber carrying the Black Rod in front of you and say:

 

Place the Black Rod in its place and sit down.

Honourable senators, the President.

Leader of the Government in the Senate Script

Instructions Script
When the time for asking questions has run out, say:

Mr/Madam President, I request that all further questions be placed on the Notice Paper.

Senator Script

Instructions Script
To ask a minister a question, begin like this:

I direct my question to the Minister for _______________ .
