Role-play toolkit: Scripts
The script is the backbone of the Parliamentary Education Office (PEO) role-play. Our scripts combine a number of elements that provide subtle yet powerful directions and which ultimately assist you in undertaking a role-play free from complication or difficulty.
The role-play script encourages authenticity by:
- making clear the steps of the role-play
- prompting action
- informing about parliamentary process
- modelling the language of the Parliament
- clarifying details specific to each chamber.
In addition the script acts as a learning tool that is:
- an adaptable template for developing role-plays on a range of topics
- formatted to provide two types of information:
- instructions in italics and
- words spoken in bold
- self-operating—many students can conduct a role-play without support
- printable to allow for easy distribution.
Once you have decided which role-play you are doing, you need to decide which chamber the role-play will happen in (or in the case of a committee role-play which chamber has asked for the committee) then select the appropriate script set. The set will contain all the individual scripts necessary to run the role-play. See below.
If this information does not provide all the scripts that you need to run a PEO role-play or if you have a suggestion or an idea, please contact the PEO by phone, fax or email.
