Relief for farmers

Changes will be made to the Farm Household Allowance (FHA) to offer further support to farmers, under a bill passed by the Parliament.

Nov 12, 2019

The Farm Household Support Amendment (Relief Measures) Bill (No. 1) 2019 will:

  • make it easier for farmers to apply the off-farm income offset
  • increase the number of times farmers can access the FHA
  • provide payments for business assessments, advice and training
  • introduce lump sum payments for farmers who need further support.

Introducing the bill, the Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, and National Disaster and Emergency Management, the Hon David Littleproud MP, said, ‘The program gives income support to eligible farmers and their families to pay for basic household necessities while they make decisions about the future of their farm business and take action to improve their circumstances.’
